04 — Anime, Pokémon, Gaming and Kawaii Guide

Family fit: daughter (16) + son (12) Rule: play and memorable experiences beat endless shopping.

Priority Ladder

Tier 1 — Build the trip around these

  1. PokéPark KANTO — Oct 5
  2. Super Nintendo World / USJ — Oct 14
  3. Ghibli Museum — Oct 8
  4. Nintendo Museum — Oct 15 if the lottery succeeds
  5. Tokyo Joypolis — Oct 4
  6. KAWAII MONSTER LAND — Oct 6
  7. UZUMASA Kyoto Village — Oct 12
  8. Shiro-Hige Totoro sweets + Shimokitazawa Curry Festival — Oct 9

Tier 2 — High-value district experiences

  • Akihabara arcade challenge + targeted anime hunt
  • Shibuya PARCO Nintendo/Pokémon/CAPCOM/JUMP floor
  • Nakano Broadway collector scavenger hunt
  • Shinjuku’s 3D cat and optional namco TOKYO
  • Den Den Town / Ota Road
  • Shimokitazawa’s vintage/music streets and fixed-date Curry Festival

Added anchor

  • Mundo Pixar on Oct 4 is a must-do between teamLab and Odaiba; protect its timed entry and shorten Gundam Base/mall browsing and the sunset first.

Bonuses, never anchors

  • Pokémon Card Game: TOKYO LUMINOUS NIGHT on Oct 10 only if it appears in the official weekend rotation;
  • temporary anime cafés or pop-ups not yet confirmed for October;
  • extra Pokémon Centers after the family has already visited the planned three;
  • repeat arcades without a specific game challenge;
  • random character shops that duplicate earlier purchases.

Booking Gates

Experience Correct action
Nintendo Museum Apply for Oct 15 by July 31 at 23:59 JST. Foreign visitors should bring passports. Official site
PokéPark KANTO Lottery closed. As of Jul 24, the official overseas store has no Oct 5 purchase path. Monitor it for official inventory; the Aug 1 system update concerns admissions from Nov 1 and is not a promised October reopening. Use only the official international store or an explicitly authorized seller. Do not use Fiverr or an unofficial paid buyer.
Ghibli Museum Buy Oct 8 tickets Sept 10 at 10:00 JST. Advance reservation only. Official tickets
UZUMASA Kyoto Village Oct 12 is the main family-samurai day. Current admission is JPY 2,800 for age 13+ and JPY 1,600 for ages 3–12. Recheck the official show schedule close to travel.
DisneySea fallback Use only if official PokéPark tickets cannot be secured. Oct 5 is currently 09:00–21:00 with Halloween, but Tower of Terror and Indiana Jones are scheduled closed. Official Oct 5 calendar
USJ Admission and Express are separate. Buy only an Express product that explicitly lists the Nintendo rides/entry wanted. Official Express page
Pokémon Café October release date not announced. Monitor official news rather than using the old rolling-date formula.
KAWAII MONSTER LAND Reserve a timed 60-minute experience from the official page.
Mundo Pixar Must-do on Oct 4. The exhibition runs through Oct 12 at CREVIA BASE Tokyo, requires a timed reservation and takes about 45–55 minutes. Buy an 11:45/12:00 entry; Oct 4 daytime D-price tickets for three age-16+ guests and one age-12 guest total about JPY 20,100 before fees. Official exhibition · official prices/calendar
Tokyo Night & Light The overall projection program is free and runs daily except severe weather, but the Pokémon work rotates on selected weekend/holiday slots. Recheck the Oct 10 work order; do not copy Instagram’s generic times. Official timetable

Day 3 — Akihabara: Play, Hunt, Cats

The challenge

Each child chooses:

  • one series/character target;
  • one retro or unusual game to play;
  • one souvenir ceiling;
  • one gachapon budget.

Route

  1. Radio Kaikan.
  2. Animate Akihabara.
  3. Mandarake after noon.
  4. One modern arcade: GiGO, namco or Taito.
  5. HEY or Super Potato for actual play, not just photos.

The cat café moved to Day 8: Cat Cafe Temari no Oshiro at Kichijōji Petit Mura sits on the Ghibli route, so Oct 3 stays a pure play-and-collect day with more arcade time.

Do not promise the Chuo-dori pedestrian zone on Oct 3—it runs on Sundays in October. Do not call a current GiGO location “SEGA Arcade.”

Day 4 — teamLab Planets + Odaiba Gaming

This pairing works geographically: Toyosu, Shin-Toyosu and Odaiba connect naturally by Yurikamome.

  • teamLab Planets early;
  • timed Mundo Pixar at Shijō-mae, between teamLab and Odaiba;
  • Unicorn Gundam and Gundam Base;
  • 3–4 hours of Tokyo Joypolis;
  • waterfront sunset.

Mundo Pixar is a protected anchor, not an optional extra. The day now has three deliberate experiences: teamLab, Pixar and Joypolis. Cut most Gundam Base browsing, the sunset, Madame Tussauds, Fuji TV and aimless mall time before shortening Pixar. Check Joypolis ride restrictions before buying passports. Official Joypolis guide

Day 5 — PokéPark KANTO

  • Published October hours: 11:00–19:00.
  • Reach Yomiuriland before 10:30.
  • Group the family tickets in the official app.
  • Be ready from 10:45 for limited-access requests.
  • Do Pokémon Forest while everyone is fresh: it has steep terrain and a 110-step staircase.
  • Prioritize Forest, Town activities, rides and the Gym/show before merchandise.

DisneySea is the first fallback if official PokéPark tickets cannot be secured. It is a replacement for Oct 5, not an additional park day. Sanrio Puroland remains a secondary fallback only if the family prefers kawaii characters to Disney.

Do not buy a ticket through Fiverr or an unofficial reseller. PokéPark prohibits commercial acquisition/resale/transfer and may invalidate tickets connected to misconduct. Monitor the official overseas store for any Oct 5 inventory re-release; the Aug 1 change applies to admissions from Nov 1 and does not promise new October sales. Official rules

Day 6 — Harajuku and Shibuya

Cute headline

KAWAII MONSTER LAND is a 60-minute participatory world of color, music, games, food and performance. It opened in February 2026 and is a far stronger family anchor than generic shopping.

Add:

  • one Harajuku crepe;
  • purikura;
  • Kiddy Land or Mofusand, not every cute shop;
  • Nintendo TOKYO, Pokémon Center Shibuya, CAPCOM and JUMP SHOP in Shibuya PARCO.

Shibuya Sky is weather-dependent and expendable. The fandom floor is not.

Day 8 — Ghibli + Nakano + Shinjuku

  • Start with the 10:00 Ghibli Museum slot, then lunch in Kichijoji.
  • Kichijōji Petit Mura after lunch: a fairy-tale micro-village five minutes from Kichijoji Station. Enter Cat Cafe Temari no Oshiro — a cat castle with about 20 cats, no time limit, ages 10+ (both kids qualify), about JPY 1,200 + tax per person on weekdays. Reserve ahead. Official site
  • Cap Nakano at 60–90 minutes.
  • Use a precise collectible wish list.
  • Watch the free Cross Shinjuku Vision 3D cat.
  • Continue to Godzilla Head.
  • Add namco TOKYO only if energy remains.

No Golden Gai or Omoide Yokocho. They are adult-first and poor use of family energy.

Day 10 — Celebration at Tokyo Dome City

Keep the family in one playful zone:

  • Thunder Dolphin for willing riders who meet restrictions;
  • Big-O Ferris wheel, ideally a karaoke gondola;
  • JUMP SHOP keepsake;
  • optional bowling/arcade if weather affects rides;
  • reserved celebration dinner.

If the official Oct 10 timetable lists Pokémon Card Game: TOKYO LUMINOUS NIGHT, use the direct Oedo Line from Kasuga to Tochomae after the rides, choose the earliest practical slot and eat the celebration dinner in West Shinjuku. Cut bowling and extra shopping first. The general show is outdoors and free; the exact Pokémon time is not yet confirmed for October. Official current works

Day 12 — UZUMASA Kyoto Village

This is the strongest kid-friendly bridge between traditional Japan and the family’s fandom/play style:

  • Edo-period film sets rather than a static history lesson;
  • samurai and ninja shows, subject to the final October timetable;
  • interactive ninja attractions and optional costume experiences;
  • a seasonal Yokai Festival during the trip dates.

Protect the 10:00–15:00/15:30 block and the apartment rest before HIBIKI. A private samurai lesson would duplicate this theme and is no longer part of the route.

Day 13 — Fushimi Inari before Osaka

Fushimi replaces the optional Manga Museum and supplies one iconic Kyoto image without creating a temple marathon:

  • travel about nine minutes by JR from Kyoto Station to JR Inari;
  • spend 60–90 minutes around the lower torii route;
  • turn back rather than climbing the full mountain;
  • visit Handmade Chopstick Workshop Yūzen Fushimi at its listed 09:30 opening;
  • prepare exact spellings; eligible pairs take roughly five minutes each to engrave;
  • collect the apartment bags, check out by 11:00 and continue to Osaka.

Official access guide · official Yūzen Fushimi account

The Instagram JPY 1,100 starting price is unverified. Confirm the Tuesday opening, product price and engraving eligibility in the final week; cut duplicate Osaka shopping if the stop runs long.

Day 14 — USJ

Before travel

  • Register all Studio Passes in the official app.
  • Arrive 60–90 minutes before the posted opening.
  • Verify the exact Express entitlements; names and ride bundles rotate.

Priority order

  1. Nintendo-area entry.
  2. Mario Kart.
  3. Mine Cart Madness.
  4. Power-Up Band challenges.
  5. One current anime/family event: Frieren Story Walk is confirmed through Jan 11, 2027; the One Piece Premier Show is separate and must be checked for the exact date.
  6. One family favorite outside Nintendo.

Halloween and Chainsaw Man content are optional only after reviewing warnings. Do not schedule experiences that exclude children 14 and under.

Day 15 — Nintendo Museum

This is the biggest new upgrade to the plan.

  • Oct 13 is impossible because the museum is closed Tuesday.
  • Oct 15 creates a logical Osaka → Uji → Kyoto → Tokyo transfer.
  • Apply for a morning or early-afternoon slot.
  • Bring passports.
  • Add Hanafuda Craft & Play only if a separate slot exists and the Tokyo train remains comfortable.

If the lottery fails, keep the original recovery morning and return directly to Tokyo.

Day 16 — Pokémon, Taiko and Asakusa Finale

  • Pokémon Café Tokyo if secured;
  • Pokémon Center Tokyo DX;
  • a protected 45–60-minute Tokyo Station First Avenue visit, with Character Street first and two or three preselected shops rather than open-ended browsing;
  • Taiko-kan around 14:00, before its 15:00 last admission;
  • choose a suitable Miyamoto bachi in the same-building shop;
  • Senso-ji at dusk;
  • Solamachi only if energy remains.

The café requires a reservation, gives a 90-minute seating period and expects every guest age six or older to order. There is no legitimate reservation fee; never pay a reseller. Prefer a 10:30–11:00 reservation so the order can be café → First Avenue → Taiko-kan. If only a later café slot is available, visit Taiko-kan at its 11:00 opening and move the café/First Avenue block afterward.

Taiko-kan is open 11:00–16:00 on Friday, with last admission at 15:00. Exhibits marked for interaction may be played. The shop is open until 18:00; buy an in-stock pair because name engraving takes about one week. Official museum · Official store · Bachi collection

Shopping Discipline

  • Photograph expensive items and compare later districts.
  • Buy location-exclusive merchandise immediately only when the exclusivity is clear.
  • Save receipts and keep fragile figures in carry-on.
  • Set cash envelopes for crane games and gachapon.
  • Three focused stores plus real game time is better than eight nearly identical stores.

Verified July 25, 2026. Recheck pop-ups, projection work order, operating calendars, age/height rules and maintenance closures closer to travel.
