# 00 — Japan 2026: Complete Family Plan

**Travel:** October 1–18, 2026
**Japan:** October 2–17 · 15 nights
**Family:** 2 adults, daughter (16), son (12)
**Stays:** Tokyo Oct 2–11 · Kyoto Oct 11–13 · Osaka Oct 13–15 · Tokyo Oct 15–17
**Canonical daily route:** [09-DAILY-ITINERARY.md](./09-DAILY-ITINERARY.md)

## What This Trip Is

This is a family trip built around **anime, gaming, Pokémon, Nintendo, ramen and kawaii experiences**. It is not a checklist of famous adult sights.

Every scheduled block must deliver at least one of:

- active play or a hands-on workshop;
- anime, manga, gaming or character fandom;
- ramen, street food or a memorable themed meal;
- a short visual “wow” moment;
- cute character culture or one welfare-conscious cat-café visit.

Long museums, luxury-shopping streets, smoky nightlife alleys, repetitive viewpoints and temple marathons have been removed. Meiji Jingu, the Great Buddha and Senso-ji remain because each is iconic, visual and easy to keep short.

## Booking Control Center

The family-wide operational list—including **new walking shoes for all four travelers**, apps, documents, tickets, weather checks and what to wear—is in the [Pre-Trip Action Checklist](./11-PRE-TRIP-CHECKLIST.md).

### Act now

- **Nintendo Museum:** enter the October lottery by **July 31 at 23:59 JST**. Choose Oct 15 morning/early-afternoon. [Official lottery calendar](https://museum-tickets.nintendo.com/en/calendar?lang=en)
- **USJ:** buy the Studio Pass, then a current Express Pass that explicitly includes the desired Nintendo rides and guaranteed area entry. Product names rotate. [Official tickets](https://www.usj.co.jp/web/en/us/tickets)
- **KAWAII MONSTER LAND and teamLab Planets:** reserve timed entries before preferred slots disappear.
- **Accommodation:** Tokyo Oct 2–11 and Fushimi Inari Oct 11–13 are booked. Complete both host-registration steps, then book Osaka Oct 13–15 and final Tokyo Oct 15–17.

### Fixed future gates

- **PokéPark KANTO:** as of Jul 24, the official overseas store shows maintenance/changeover information and no Oct 5 purchase path. Monitor it for an official inventory re-release; the announced Aug 1 system change is for admissions from Nov 1, not a promised reopening for October. Use only the [official overseas store](https://ticket-en.pokepark-kanto.co.jp/) or a seller explicitly authorized by PokéPark. Do not pay a Fiverr buyer or unofficial reseller; keep [DisneySea](https://www.tokyodisneyresort.jp/en/tds/daily/calendar/20261005/) as the Oct 5 fallback.
- **Ghibli Museum:** buy for **Oct 8** when October tickets release **Sept 10 at 10:00 JST**. [Official tickets](https://www.ghibli-museum.jp/en/tickets/)
- **Mizuekai:** target the **13:00 Oct 11** recital; the 16:00 performance conflicts with Awata. Official 2026 prices are JPY 10,000 on the first floor and JPY 8,000 on the second, age 10+. [Official page](https://www.miyagawacho.jp/mizuekai/)
- **DRUM TAO HIBIKI:** target **19:00 on Oct 12**; doors open 18:15 and the show runs about 40 minutes. Ticket sales open two months before the performance. [Official tickets](https://drum-tao-kyoto.com/en/ticket/)
- **Pokémon Café:** the previous “Sept 15” instruction is invalid. October’s release has not been announced; watch [official news](https://www.pokemon-cafe.jp/en/cafe/news/) and reserve immediately when published.

## The Major Wins

- **Best for the son:** PokéPark, Joypolis, Tokyo Dome rides, Super Nintendo World, Nintendo Museum.
- **Best for the sister:** KAWAII MONSTER LAND, Harajuku, Shibuya PARCO, Ghibli, character shopping.
- **Best shared fandom:** Akihabara, Nakano, UZUMASA, Den Den Town and Pokémon Centers.
- **Best food memories:** Shimokitazawa Curry Festival, Totoro cream puffs, Ichiran/AFURI, tsukemen and Dotonbori.
- **Best nature resets:** Meiji forest, Todoroki Ravine, the Kamakura/Enoshima coast and Inokashira Park.
- **Best “cute” mix:** the Petit Mura fairy-tale cat castle, Harajuku kawaii, the Shinjuku 3D cat, Kirby/Mofusand/Sanrio character stops.
- **Best traditional moments:** Mizuekai, Awata Shrine’s night procession, UZUMASA, DRUM TAO, Fushimi Inari and the hands-on Taiko-kan finale.

## Pacing Rules

1. One headline per half-day; maximum two timed attractions in one day.
2. Shopping areas get a wish list, a time box and a cash cap.
3. Protect the slow start on Oct 10, the rest block between UZUMASA and HIBIKI on Oct 12, and the fallback recovery version of Oct 15.
4. “Cut first” notes in the daily itinerary are real instructions, not suggestions to squeeze everything in.
5. Day 7 cannot casually swap with Oct 8 after Ghibli is booked; use rain gear or a separate indoor backup instead.

## Important Accuracy Corrections

- Todoroki Ravine’s full riverside path reopened on March 24, 2026. It has narrow, uneven and sometimes unfenced sections; skip it during or just after heavy rain. [Official Setagaya update](https://www.city.setagaya.lg.jp/02075/9082.html)
- Recheck that official Todoroki page one to two weeks before Oct 9 for any temporary maintenance or construction restrictions.
- The 2026 Shimokitazawa Curry Festival is confirmed for Oct 8–25, so Oct 9 lands on day two. Use mini portions for a family tasting game. [Official festival](https://shimokitazawa-curryfes.com/)
- The scheduled animal stop is a conventional cat café — **Cat Cafe Temari no Oshiro** inside the fairy-tale **Kichijōji Petit Mura** complex on Oct 8. Three exotic-animal **side quests** (LOUTRE otters in Kyoto Oct 11; Rock Star small animals and the America-mura snake café in Osaka Oct 13) were added deliberately as optional walk-ins, knowing a peer-reviewed assessment found consistently low welfare across Japanese exotic-animal cafés — they are eyes-open, cut-first extras. [Study](https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/jvms/advpub/0/advpub_24-0257/_article/-char/en)
- Akihabara’s pedestrian zone is Sunday-only in October, so it is not promised on Saturday Oct 3.
- PokéPark October hours are 11:00–19:00 and limited-access app requests begin from 10:45.
- Tokyo Yosakoi and Ikegami Oeshiki are no longer in the route; Kyoto’s fixed-date Mizuekai and Awata events replace them.
- Pokémon Café release rules changed; no October date should be hardcoded until the official announcement.
- Kyoto is now a two-night stay, not a day trip. Uji still appears on Oct 15 for Nintendo Museum only if the lottery succeeds.
- Fushimi Inari replaces the optional Kyoto Manga Museum on Oct 13; keep the visit to the lower gates so Osaka still gets a relaxed arrival.
- Tokyo Station First Avenue is a protected 45–60-minute Oct 16 stop, including a focused pass through Character Street. If the Pokémon Café slot is later than 11:00, visit Taiko-kan at opening and move the café/First Avenue block afterward; cut Skytree and extra shopping first.
- PokéPark’s Aug 1 update applies to admissions from Nov 1 and is not an October sales date. Monitor only the official overseas store for Oct 5 inventory; unofficial paid ticket acquisition is not an approved fallback.
- Mibu Kyogen is an optional Oct 12 swap. Do not stack it onto the full UZUMASA + HIBIKI baseline.
